Question: Do I have to go to the dealer for any car maintenance to guarantee my warranty?
Answer: No. Regular maintenance as specified by the manufacturer is needed to protect your warranty. All factory maintenance services may be done at Laser Lube not only the car dealership.
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and general principles of the Federal Trade Commission Act, a car manufacturer may not require the use of only their brand of filter or any other part, unless the manufacturer provides the part free of charge under the terms of the warranty.
Laser Lube uses only parts and lubricants that meet all foreign and domestic auto manufacturer's specifications. Our computer keeps a service history on your vehicle should you need proof of regular car maintenance to satisfy your warranty requirements.
Question: When do I need new drive belts and/or a timing belt?
Answer: Auto manufacturers recommend all drive belts be replaced every 60,000 miles or 5 years. Timing belt replacement varies from vehicle. Some vehicles have timing chains which need not be replaced for 150,000 miles, if ever. Some vehicles have what's called an "interference motor" which means if the timing belt breaks the motor does like a "head crash"
and will need to be rebuilt or replaced. For example, all Honda's have "interference motors" and the manufacturer highly recommends a timing belt replacement every 90,000 miles. Ford escort requires timing belt replacement at 105,000 miles and usually need it, as well.
Drive belts deteriorate for a number of reasons. The major cause of belt failure is heat. Heat is generated simply because the belt is in motion. Belts should frequently be checked by a professional. a quick check method for any belt is visual. If there is 3 or more cracks per inch on any belt it's life is 80% over and in need of replacement.
